Temporary closing of TLB and postponement of 2020 season

Dear members, friends and patrons of Theatre Lac-Brome,

As you all know, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Government of Quebec has taken important measures to counter the spread of the virus. These actions include the closure of all performance venues in the province – a step that is having an unprecedented impact on the arts and on the economy. TLB is no exception to the rule, and shows scheduled for March and April have already been cancelled, with all the financial consequences this entails.

This is a difficult and trying time for all of us, in which the health and safety of artists, audiences, staff and volunteers becomes everyone’s concern. In light of these circumstances and after careful consideration, TLB’s Board of Directors has decided to suspend all activities until the situation returns to normal, and to postpone its 2020 season.

Please be assured that these decisions were not taken lightly, and that the entire TLB team is sincerely sorry for the disappointment this may cause many of you. We are all the more saddened by the fact that the team, under the artistic direction of Ellen David, was about to launch TLB’s 2020 season with a superb, well-rounded program that would have gathered together all of our various audiences. The line-up included English-language plays produced by TLB itself, French-language theatre, shows and concerts in a variety of musical genres, productions for school and family audiences, comedy, films and a series of special events.

Please note that we will try to reschedule some shows in the fall, including the performance by Martha Wainwright, now scheduled for October 3, and others will be rescheduled to 2021. Anyone who has already purchased tickets for this season’s shows, including the June 20th Gala, can hold on to them, with the assurance that they will remain valid in the event the shows are rescheduled.

As a gesture of solidarity with TLB, during this difficult time for the arts, those who wish to, may consider donating the value of your cancelled ticket back to the Theatre as a tax-deductible contribution. Please contact us at theatrelacbrome@gmail.com. to obtain your tax receipt. More than ever, TLB needs your support. All donations, however modest, are welcome, and we offer our deepest thanks in advance.

When this health crisis is behind us, we will all need to find each other again through laughter and entertainment. At that time, Theatre Lac-Brome will be there for you, ready to contribute to our community’s cultural vitality and offer you the high quality shows you expect. We will keep you informed of any changes or developments through our website and Facebook page. We thank you very much for your understanding, support and loyalty.

We hope that everyone stays safe and healthy and we look forward to welcoming you back to the Theatre as soon as possible.

Sincerely,

Jean-Claude Mahé
Chair of the Board, Theatre Lac-Brome
